Invitation to join Kunstradio's Celebration of ART'S BIRTHDAY 2007!

Art's Birthday 2007: Adore and be still.
100 years of radio

Art's Birthday Party is a celebration in memory of Robert Filliou who
declared,
on January 17 1963, that Art had been born exactly 1,000,000 years
ago when
someone dropped a dry sponge into a pail of water. After Filliou's
death in
1987, some artists began to celebrate Art's Birthday in the spirit of
his
concept of "The Eternal Network" or "La Fete permanente". The
Birthday parties
took place in different cities across the world, and artists were
asked to
bring birthday presents for Art – works that could be shared over the
network.

On Christmas 1906, on the other hand, Reginald Aubrey Fessenden
undertook the
very first radio broadcast of voice and music. Luckily, he had the
foresight to
time his experiment exactly, its 100th anniversary practically
coinciding with
the 1,000,044th birthday of Art.
We therefore ask you to join Kunstradio's celebration of this
stunning fact. We
invite you to search your own territories for further firsts in radio
history.
Premieres of different kinds; the first transmission in stereo, the
start of a
series of brilliant shows, the first time you listened to the radio,
the first
time they played 'your' song, the first time you were broadcasting,
were on
air.

Soundfiles of these broadcasts we ask you to upload to our website at
http://kunstradio.at/PROJECTS/AB2007/index.html

Feeding on your individual sonic archives and this database of
numerous people's
special radio moments you can then assemble your own radiophonic
versions of our
medium's history. These we invite you to stream to our party in
Vienna on
January 17th, 2007. We will re-mix and further distribute your
streams via our
live Kunstradio broadcast on the cultural channel of Austrian
National Radio
Ö1, as well as in our slot on the EBU satellite.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us
under
kunstradio@kunstradio.at

Please feel free to spread the word! This is the party you can bring
along as
many people as you like!

--
The short version:

What do we want?
A present. Not for us, for Art's birthday.

Which present?
Your radio's history. Or: Your history of radio.

How?
Streamed, mailed, sent, posted, uploads at
http://kunstradio.at/PROJECTS/AB2007/index.html

Format?
mp3 files, live-streams, images, webcams, ..

When?
January 17th, 2007 from 20:00 - 24:00 CET, 19:00 - 23:00 GMT

Why?
To celebrate.

What?
Art's Birthday.

FLUXHIBITION : still dates in 2007

we promised cecil to spread the news about the fluxcase travellin the world and that there are still dates available on that tour in 2007.
although as far as we know right now nobody knows about the whereabouts of the fluxcase...

the word to cecil then ::

A quick start on the new Museum Season.

The Ontological Museum has opened its fluxnexus wing of the museum with the domain www.fluxmuseum.org. We 21st century type fluxus artists have the opportunity to document ourselves. This is a continuation of the post-dogmatist program of self documentation through the establishment of its own institutions. The FLUXmUSeum is available to storage, document and exhibit any works that any fluxnexus artist wishes to donate to it. Storage capacity for physical objects is somewhat limited - no elephants or cars or anything like that. Compactness in important.

In keeping with Ontological Museum policies, any registered member of the fluxnexus (one who has been assigned a PIN#) can establish their own branch of the FLUXmUSeum. Once enough materials are gathered, we could do branch exchanges of material in order to have continually scheduled fluxhibitions, fluxoramas and the like.

We are a few of weeks away from the beginning of a new art season. Would any of you like to help organize a traveling exhibition that would move around in a postal box from place to place and be put on exhibition for a weekend or so? You could have an opening party, invite your friends and have a blast - a fluxparty in a box. The box might include events, poetry readings, objects, performances and so forth to be created, performed, fabricated and exhibited that could be prepared quickly for a low cost... Send the photos and other documetation to the hub museum (fort worth) and I'll put it all on the FLUXmUSeum website. On monday ship off to the next destination. Soon we could add 50 new international exhibitions to our fluxnexus resumes. I am sure, in a few days we could throw something together and then improve it as it goes around. Each weekend could be critiqued by whoever is hosting it and then we could tweek it up until it seems really great.

No Wave in MODERN PAINTERS

Check out the July/August 2006 issue of MODERN PAINTERS. There is a very illuminating article about No Wave expertly citing Fluxus as a major influence not only in that EV early 80s musick scene but also as a huge influence on mainstream 60s Brit pop like The Who.

i'll get the ball rolling by saying that Grapefruit by Yoko Ono is 1 of my favorite books, especially the text entitled "A FILM OF SUPER REALISM: SHI (From the Cradle to the Grave of Mr. So)". this is a short fiction in the form of an interview (with attatched introductory commentary) with a fictitious film-maker of an imaginary documentary of (literally now!) the ENTIRE life its named subject. i like this text as much as i do not only because it is hilarious, but even more, because it has turned out to be prophetic...i saw the Jim Carrey movie The Truman Show (WHICH WAS BRILLIANT) because the description of it being about a guy whose whole life (unbeknownst to himself!) is a t.v. show, reminded me SO MUCH of the Yoko Ono text in question...& both this movie & this text are superb commentaries on the surveillance society we have now!

Burning Man as a evolution of Fluxus?

I'm writing my thesis on the art of Burning Man, and would like to get y'all's thoughts on how Burning Man could possibly be seen as an extension of Fluxus. Do you agree? Disagree? Don't care?

Also I read an open letter that pronounced Fluxus as dead. What are your thoughts? I would argue that is incorrect, but would love to hear what you think.

Thank you!

PSY.GEO.CONFLUX 2004
New York City, May 13?16, 2004
from 7?9pm
Friday May 14 ? Sunday, May 16, 10?6pm

Glowlab is pleased to announce Psy.Geo.Conflux
2004, the second in an annual
series dedicated to current artistic and social
investigations in
psychogeography (the study of the effects of the
geographic environment on the emotions
and behavior of individuals). Part festival and part
conference, it brings
together visual and sound artists, writers, urban
adventurers and the public to
explore the physical and psychological landscape of
the city. Events will take
place throughout the city, with headquarters located at
PARTICIPANT INC, which
will serve as a place for participants and visitors to
meet, pick up maps and
schedules, and attend lectures. All events are free and
open to the public.

Psy.Geo.Conflux 2004 features a full program of events
from Thursday through
Sunday, including experimental walks using altered
maps and navigational aids;
"techno-drifts" through the city using wearable
computing devices; a
human-scale chess game to take place in Times
Square; a walking presentation of an
urban documentary project commissioned by the New
Museum of Contemporary Art; a
series of temporary installations, lectures, audio and
video works, and more.

A complete schedule, event details, links to
participants, and contact
information is available at www.psygeocon.org.

Glowlab is an arts lab for the production,
documentation and presentation of
multi-media work in the evolving fields of
psychogeography and public space
arts. We produce events and lectures, organize
collaborative projects and
exhibitions, and maintain an online lab at http://
www.glowlab.com. Psychogeography
is an open and highly experimental discipline
concerned with the ways in which
the geographic environment affects emotions and
behavior. Approaches to
psychogeography vary, and include artistic, political,
philosophical and scientific
work in fields ranging from archaeology and
cartography to programming,
performance and street art. Glowlab aims to bring
together these diverse
perspectives and engage in dialogue on the methods
and practice of psychogeography. We
are particularly interested in the idea of public space as
an artistic medium,
and in May 2003 produced the first annual
Psy.Geo.Conflux, a four-day festival
and conference in New York dedicated to current
artistic and social
investigations in psychogeography. Glowlab was
founded in 2002 as a project of Brooklyn
artist Christina Ray, and is maintained by a small group
of collaborators and
volunteers.

Psy.Geo.Conflux 2004 is produced by Brooklyn-based
arts lab Glowlab, in
collaboration with PARTICIPANT INC. Sponsored in
part by Artists Space Independent
Project Grant.

PARTICIPANT INC's exhibitions are made possible
with public funds from the
New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.

PARTICIPANT INC has received generous support
from the Harriett Ames
Charitable Trust, Bloomberg, Materials for the Arts-NY
Department of Cultural Affairs,
The MAT Charitable Foundation, The Andy Warhol
Foundation for the Visual Arts
and numerous individuals.

PARTICIPANT INC is located at 95 Rivington Street,
between Ludlow and Orchard
Streets on the Lower East Side.
